My wife and I want to divorce and i am wondering what is best way to split up property, investments and debt 50%. Should we first sell the house and then split the equity and the other items at that time? We are in no hurry but would like to divorce as soon as we can.

It depends on how much she resents you! If you can get away with 50/50 then get it over with! Otherwise your in FOR a long battle. Sorry for your situation.
Seems like you both are having an amicable split. If this is the case then take the extra time to sell the house so that you don’t lose out too much on any equity you have in the house. Set a time frame on when things should be done, but you both must be reasonable to give yourself at least 3-6 months for this process. In the meantime, one of you can live away from the home while the other can stay. Likewise for everything else. In certain cases, it’ll probably best to negotiate a trade instead of outright 50% split. i.e., let her take the car for the furnitures, etc…
Sorry to see this happens but I’m glad to hear at least that it’s not a dog-cat fight for the property. Good luck and be professional in things.
Hi! First, I’m sorry your getting divorced. How amicable are you? A marriage is 50-50, split everything monetary right down the middle. yes sell the house and use it to clear up the debt for both of you. Then split the remainder of the house and investment money. Do you really need to divorce? It is hard on everyone!
Just remeber that both lawyers want your money before they help you.. this is their priority! they will do all they can to make an amicable situation into war!
You have answered your own question logically. However, do not let this be the reason to delay a divorce if you and your spouse are not happy. I am sure the judge will so order so as well.
Be fair and talk about who realy wants what. You can sell the house and split the money or one of you can keep the house in exchange for something else or buy half the rights to the house. just be civil and it will be much easier
Sell the house pay of your debt and start over and stay out of debt!
in my opinion, you should take everything…
sell first then divide so its fair
go ask a lawyer…

sell the house.. so neither of you get it .. and then get out of debt and then the judge should handle it from there..
